India is a country that you can either fall in love with right away, or look at with disbelief. One thing is for sure, India is a captivating place. This is exactly what happened to our British correspondent Tom Otley who went to Hyderabad –a city whose rise echoes the ascent of the country as a whole, and is often referred to as “the India in miniature”.

Hyderabad is the capital of Andhra Pradesh, India’s fourth-largest state in terms of area, and fifth-largest in terms of population. It’s home to almost ten million people, 8 per cent of the country’s total population.

What do we know about modern India? Today it’s one of the fastest developing countries in the world where great fortunes are made right next to slums of great poverty. Economists believe that by 2035 India will become the third economic power in the world, right behind the United States and China, and overtaking Japan! Today, according to data from the World Bank, it’s listed 10th in the economic ranking, with gross domestic product of 806 billion US$. It’s ahead of Poland by impressive 13 places! Enjoy your reading and I hope that one day you will also wish to visit this amazing country.
