With its limited space providing a sense of security and tranquillity, time on an island seems to flow more casually, in its own pace, usually more slowly. It’s much easier to live there a more fulfilling life and unwind effortlessly, since the possibilities are limited by the area of the island. You can’t help, but think of the reference to a human being as an island, with its own shores, a distinct line, boundaries. Also with a sense of loneliness and endless drifting.
Before we set off for an island, we try to imagine what it’s like. I usually start with the associations its shape evokes. I’ve just noticed that Curaçao resembles an exotic fish. The island attracts tourists with its dry tropical climate and an average annual temperature of 30°C and cooling trade winds that blow constantly from the east, picking up in the spring months. It’s worth visiting here the lively town of Willemstad, which is a UNESCO World Heritage City, as well as try the delicious local fare and spend a day on one of its 35 sandy beaches.
